On
February 7, 2001, a group of citizens gathered around a table at a local
restaurant to discuss building a veteran's park. Before an hour
had passed this group of about a dozen individual citizens made a
commitment their vision, to build a veteran's park.
The next big step was a request to the County on
March 6, 2001, for the use of land for the park. The progress was
such at this point that our architect had taken the committee's vision
and developed it into the plan for this beautiful park.
From the beginning, community support in the form
of contributions of dollars, materials, trade and professional services
has been almost unprecedented. This level of support has allowed
the rapid progress in the building of the park.
The park has been built at less than 50% of cost
in cash. It is hard to determine the exact amount of contributions
due to not having hard estimates of the value of some of the contributed
materials and services.
The
committed and diligent work of he committee with the support of the
community has resulted in this park which is second to none.
To all who have supported the building of this
park, the committee thanks you. We thank you for the privilege of
leading the community in the building of this beautiful park.
The committee hopes that you will join them in the
pride the community has for this park and will take time to stroll the
plaza from time to time enjoying the beauty and quiet time here among
our heroes.
